The History of the Peloponnesian War is an old book about a big disagreement between ancient Greek cities. It happened a long time ago, from 431 to 404 BC. The two groups were the Peloponnesian League, led by Sparta, and the Delian League, led by Athens.

A man named Thucydides from Athens wrote this book. Many people think it is one of the first real history books ever written. Thucydides wrote about what happened each year, splitting the time into busy summers and quieter winters. He tried to write fairly about both sides, even though he was from Athens.

The book talks about why the disagreement started and what happened during it. It shows how important it was to have strong ships, like the special trireme. Thucydides also wrote about how natural events, like earthquakes, affected the people.

Even today, people still read and study Thucydides' book to learn about the past. It helps us understand how countries and cities sometimes have difficult times when they don’t agree.
