Java

Java is a big island in Indonesia. It is very crowded because many people live there—about 156 million! That makes Java the most crowded island in the whole world. The island is shaped like a long finger and has many mountains, some of which are volcanoes.

Java is very important to Indonesia. The country’s capital city, Jakarta, is on Java. This city is very busy and full of life. Java also has many special places, like Borobudur Temple and Prambanan Temple. These temples are very old and beautiful.

People on Java grow lots of rice. The green fields look like a sea of grass. Java is also famous for its coffee. Long ago, people from far away came to Java to buy this coffee. Today, when someone says “Java,” they often think of coffee!

Java has four main parts called provinces: Banten, West Java, Central Java, and East Java. There are also two special places: Jakarta and Yogyakarta. Each of these places has its own main city. For example, Bandung is the main city of West Java, and Surabaya is the main city of East Java.

Many different kinds of people live on Java. They speak many languages and follow many religions, but they all share the beautiful land of Java. The island has busy cities, green farms, and tall mountains—all in one place!
