The Lunar Gateway

The Lunar Gateway was a special space station that people planned to build around the Moon. It was part of a big plan called the Artemis program. Many countries worked together on this idea, including NASA, the European Space Agency, the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, the Canadian Space Agency, and the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre.

The Gateway would have helped spaceships like the Orion meet lunar landers. It would have been the first space station beyond low Earth orbit. Scientists wanted to use it to learn about space and the Moon.

In the end, NASA decided to focus on building a base on the Moon instead. The parts meant for the Gateway will be used for other space projects. The Gateway would have been placed in a special path called a near-rectilinear halo orbit around the Moon. This would have helped it stay in place with less fuel.

The Gateway would have had different parts, like the Power and Propulsion Element to give power and move the station, and the Habitation and Logistics Outpost where astronauts could live. Even though the Gateway is not being built now, it was an exciting idea for future space adventures!
