All About Mangoes

Mangoes are sweet and juicy fruits that grow on big trees. They come from tropical places and are loved all around the world. The mango tree is called Mangifera indica and it grows in warm areas like South and Southeast Asia.

Mangoes come in many colors like yellow, orange, and green. They can be round or oval and taste sweet or a little sour. People enjoy eating them fresh, in salads, or making yummy drinks. In India, Pakistan, and the Philippines, mangoes are the national fruit, and they are very special there.

Mango trees can grow very tall—up to 30–40 metres (about 98–131 feet)! Some trees live for over 300 years and still make fruit. The leaves of mango trees are shiny green when they grow up, but they start as orange-pink and turn dark red before becoming green. The flowers are small, white, and smell sweet.

People have grown mangoes for thousands of years. They first grew in areas that are now Bangladesh, northeastern India, and Myanmar. Today, many countries grow mangoes, and they are enjoyed by people everywhere. In India, mangoes are picked from March to May and used in many tasty dishes and sweet treats.
