Mary Todd Lincoln

Mary Todd Lincoln was the First Lady of the United States when her husband, President Abraham Lincoln, was in charge. She was born into a wealthy family in Lexington, Kentucky. Mary loved learning and grew up speaking French and other subjects.

Mary met Abraham Lincoln through her sister. They got married in 1842 and had four sons together. Life was busy and happy, but sadly, two of their sons passed away when they were very young.

When Abraham became President, Mary helped him a lot. She took care of the White House and made it beautiful. She also visited soldiers in hospitals to cheer them up.

After a very sad time when Abraham passed away, Mary moved back to Illinois. She lived with family and traveled to Europe. Mary passed away in 1882 at the age of 63 and is buried in the Lincoln Tomb in Springfield.
