The Tallest Peak in Eastern Canada
Mount Caubvick is a very tall mountain in Canada. It is the highest point in Quebec, Newfoundland and Labrador, and all of mainland Canada east of the Rockies. This amazing peak rises high above the sea and has sharp ridges and pretty valleys.
A Special Name
The mountain was named Mont D'Iberville by the Quebec government in 1971. Later, it was named after Caubvick, one of five Inuit who traveled with George Cartwright to England in 1772.
Climbing the Mountain
Getting to the top of Mount Caubvick is very challenging because it is in a hard-to-reach place with lots of snow. Two main paths lead to the top: the Minaret Ridge from the east, and the Koroc Ridge from the west. The first people to reach the top were American climbers in 1973, and the first Canadian team made it to the top in 1978.
