Nanjing is a very special city in China. It is the capital of Jiangsu province, located in East China. This city has a long and rich history, being an important place for many different governments and leaders over the past 1,800 years. Because of this, Nanjing is known as one of the Four Great Ancient Capitals of China.

Today, Nanjing is a busy and modern city. It has many universities, including the famous Nanjing University. The city is also a leader in science, especially in areas like chemistry and physical sciences. Nanjing is full of beautiful places to visit, such as the Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum, the Ming Xiaoling Mausoleum, and Purple Mountain. These spots attract many visitors every year who come to learn about the city’s past and enjoy its lovely scenery.

The name “Nanjing” means “Southern Capital.” It started as a nickname a long time ago. Over the years, the city has had many different names. For example, in ancient times, it was called Yuecheng or Jinling. Later, it became known as Jianye and Jiankang. When the Ming dynasty began, the city was named Nanjing to be different from the northern capital in Beijing. Even today, people still remember these old names.

Nanjing is located in the Yangtze River Delta, a very important area for business and travel. The Yangtze River flows past the city, helping shape its landscape and providing important water routes. The city has four different seasons. Summers can be hot and humid, while winters can be cold. Nanjing gets a lot of rain, especially during the rainy season. The city’s airport, Lukou International Airport, has flights both inside and outside of China. Nanjing is also a big port on the Yangtze River, with many ships and goods passing through.
