What was Netscape?

Netscape was a company from America that helped people use the early internet. It made a web browser called the Netscape web browser, which many people used in the 1990s. Imagine a tool that lets you look at pictures, read news, and visit fun websites — that’s what Netscape did!

Cool Things from Netscape

Some smart people who worked at Netscape made important things we still use today. Brendan Eich created JavaScript, a special language that makes websites come alive with games and moving pictures. Another person, Lou Montulli, invented HTTP cookies. These tiny pieces of information help websites remember your name or favorite color.

A Big Change

In 1998, Netscape did something very kind. They shared their browser’s code with everyone, so other people could help improve it. This started a project called the Mozilla Organization, which later led to the Mozilla Foundation and the Mozilla Firefox browser we use today.

Netscape’s story shows how one company helped shape the internet into the fun place we know and love!
