The New River
The New River) is a special waterway in England. It was built a long time ago, in 1613, to bring clean water to London. People needed fresh water to drink, and this river helped give it to them.
The New River starts near a town called Ware in Hertfordshire. It flows for about 28 miles to a place in London called Islington. You can walk along a path called the New River Path to see parts of the river.
Many years ago, a man named Edmund Colthurst had the idea to build the New River. Another man, Hugh Myddelton, helped finish it. Today, part of the river is still used to give water to London. It is taken care of by a company called Thames Water.
You can still see some parts of the old river path in places like Stoke Newington and Enfield. One fun spot is called the New River Loop in Enfield, where the river used to flow in a curved path.
