What Was New Spain?

New Spain was a big area that Spain ruled a long time ago. It started after Spain traveled to the Americas and took over many places. The main city was Mexico City, which was built where an old city called Tenochtitlan used to be.

Where Was New Spain?

New Spain covered lots of land. It included most of what is now Mexico and parts of the southwestern United States. It also reached into California, Florida, Louisiana, Central America, the Caribbean, and even some places in Asia like the Philippines and Guam.

Why Do We Know About New Spain?

People know about New Spain because it was very important to Spain. Spain found lots of silver there, especially in a place called Zacatecas. This silver made Spain very rich. The port city of Acapulco was busy with ships traveling to the Philippines.

Later, New Spain had some troubles. There were problems when Spain faced a difficult time in Europe. This led to big changes, and New Spain eventually became the country of Mexico.
