The North Bridge in Edinburgh

The North Bridge is a special road in Edinburgh, a city in Scotland. It helps people go from the Old Town to the New Town. Two big streets, High Street and Princes Street, meet at this bridge.

There have been two bridges in this spot. The first one was built a long time ago, between 1763 and 1772. It was made of stone and had many arches. The bridge we see today was built later, between 1894 and 1897. It was made by a company called Sir William Arrol & Co., the same people who built the famous Forth Bridge.

Near the North Bridge are two nice hotels. At the south end is The Scotsman Hotel, and at the north end is the Balmoral Hotel. The bridge also has a plaque remembering the old bridge.

In 2021, people worked on the bridge to make it better. They fixed the surface and repaired it. This work finished in spring 2026. Now the North Bridge looks fresh and strong for everyone to use.
