North China

North China is a big part of the People's Republic of China. It has five main areas: the cities of Beijing and Tianjin, and the places called Hebei, Shanxi, and Inner Mongolia.

The middle of North China is a flat land called the North China Plain. Most people here speak a special kind of Chinese called Mandarin. The way people talk in Beijing helped make this the main language.

Long ago, North China was home to early people. Important old bones, like those of Peking Man, were found near Beijing. The land has cold winters and not much rain, but people have lived there for thousands of years. They grew food like millet and raised animals such as horses and camels.

Some big cities in North China are Beijing, Tianjin, Taiyuan, and Shijiazhuang. These cities are busy places where many people live and work.
