The Old Kingdom of Egypt

The Old Kingdom of Egypt was a very special time long ago, from around 2700 to 2200 BC. People call it the "Age of the Pyramids" because many big pyramids were built then. It was a time when Egypt grew strong and smart.

One of the most famous kings was Djoser. His clever helper, Imhotep, built the first big stone building ever — a special shape called a step pyramid at a place named Saqqara. Kings during this time were thought to be like gods on Earth.

Later, kings like Sneferu, Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure built huge pyramids. The most famous are the pyramids at Giza. These pyramids still stand today and amaze people all over the world.

During the Old Kingdom, Egypt traded with faraway lands for treasures like gold and wood. People built ships using ropes to hold the wood together, without metal nails. This was a busy time for traders and builders.
