The Prophet's Mosque
The Prophet's Mosque is a very special place for many people. It is found in the beautiful city of Medina, in the Hejaz area of Saudi Arabia. It is the second most important mosque after the Masjid al-Haram in Mecca.
This mosque was built a long time ago by Muhammad. Two young children named Sahl and Suhayl gave their land for the mosque. Muhammad wanted to pay for it because they were orphans, so a kind man named Abu Ayyub al-Ansari helped make the payment.
The mosque started as an open space where people could learn, solve problems, and talk together. It had a special raised area called a minbar where teachers shared the Quran. Today, the mosque has many beautiful parts, like the Green Dome, which is a famous green-colored roof.
Long ago, in 1909, the Prophet's Mosque became the first place in the Arabian Peninsula to have electric lights. Even today, it is open for visitors most of the time. It was only closed for a short time during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.
The Prophet's Mosque is a wonderful place filled with history and beauty. Many people visit it to learn, pray, and remember important stories from the past.
