Saint Kitts and Nevis
Saint Kitts and Nevis is a tiny island country in the Caribbean. It has two beautiful islands called Saint Kitts and Nevis. This country is very small, with only about 48,000 people living there. It is the smallest sovereign state in the Western Hemisphere.
The capital city is Basseterre, located on Saint Kitts. Many people arrive here on cruise ships. Nevis is a smaller, peaceful island just a short distance away, separated by a narrow waterway called the Narrows.
Long ago, the Kalinago people lived on these islands. When Christopher Columbus arrived in 1493, he named the larger island after Saint Christopher. The smaller island was named Nevis, which means "Our Lady of the Snows" in Spanish, because clouds often cover its peak.
Saint Kitts and Nevis became independent from Britain in 1983. Today, it is a friendly place where people enjoy warm weather, beautiful beaches, and colorful festivals. The islands are known for their friendly people and rich culture. Visitors love to relax on the beaches, explore old forts, and enjoy local music and dances.
The country is also famous for being the birthplace of Alexander Hamilton, one of the important leaders of the United States. The islands have a mix of histories, from early settlers to modern times, making Saint Kitts and Nevis a special place to visit and learn about.
