San Diego Zoo
Adapted from Wikipedia · Explorer experience
The San Diego Zoo is a wonderful place to see animals from all over the world. It is located in San Diego, California, in a big park called Balboa Park. The zoo began with animals from a big fair in 1915 called the Panama–California Exposition.
The zoo has over 12,000 animals from more than 680 different types. The animals live in open-air exhibits that look like their natural homes. You can see animals from Africa, Asia, Australia, and more!
One special part of the zoo is the Wildlife Explorers Basecamp. Here, kids can get close to animals like naked mole rats, sloths, and fennec foxes. There are also fun play areas and sculptures to explore.
The San Diego Zoo also has a big Safari Park nearby in Escondido, California. The Safari Park gives animals more space to live in natural settings that look like parts of Asia, Africa, and Australia.
The zoo works hard to help protect animals and nature. It has special programs to help endangered animals have babies and to protect their homes in the wild. For example, the zoo helped the California condor population grow from just 22 birds to over 200.
The San Diego Zoo is one of the most visited zoos in the United States and is often called one of the best zoos in the world. It is a wonderful place to learn about animals and why we need to protect them.
