Softball
Softball is a fun sport that is very much like baseball. It uses a bigger ball and is played on a smaller field. In softball, pitchers throw the ball underhand to batters, which makes the game different from baseball.
The sport was invented in 1887 in Chicago by George Hancock. There are two main types of softball: slow-pitch and fast-pitch. Slow-pitch is often played just for fun, while fast-pitch is played at higher levels. Fast-pitch softball was once part of the Summer Olympic Games, and it will return for the 2028 Summer Olympics.
Softball is played at many levels, from club teams to high schools, colleges, and even professionally. The field has four bases arranged in a square, and players hit a larger ball to score runs. Players take turns batting and fielding, and each team tries to score more runs by hitting the ball and running around the bases.
The game usually has seven innings, where each team gets a chance to bat and field. The team with the most runs at the end wins! Players use bats made of metal or composite material to hit the ball, and there are rules about strikes and balls that decide if a batter gets to run to first base.
Softball is enjoyed by people of all ages, from children to adults. It is popular in schools, communities, and even in professional leagues. The sport teaches teamwork, skill, and fun for everyone who plays.
