Southwestern Mandarin

Southwestern Mandarin is a special way of speaking Mandarin Chinese. It is used in many places in Southwestern China. You can hear it in big cities like Sichuan, Yunnan, and Chongqing. It is also spoken in smaller places such as Guizhou, Hubei, Hunan, Guangxi, Shaanxi, and Gansu.

More than 260 million people speak Southwestern Mandarin. If it were its own language, it would be one of the most spoken languages in the whole world!

This type of Mandarin started when people moved to these areas during the old Ming and Qing Dynasties. Because it did not change too much, it sounds a bit like the Mandarin we hear today. It is used in places like Myanmar and even in parts of Thailand and Vietnam. In some areas, like the Wa State, it is one of the main languages people speak.
