St James's Palace
St James's Palace
St James's Palace is a very special and important royal home in London. It is located in the City of Westminster. Even though it is not where the king or queen lives now, it is still a busy place for important royal events.
The palace was built a long time ago in the 1500s by Henry VIII. It was made on the site of an old hospital dedicated to Saint James the Less. For many years, it was a quiet place for the royal family to relax and welcome guests.
Today, St James's Palace is still very important. It is where ambassadors to the United Kingdom are officially welcomed. The Chapel Royal inside the palace is used for special events by the British royal family. The palace also hosts important meetings and receptions.
The building is made mostly of red brick and has a beautiful Tudor style. Some of the older rooms still remain, even though a fire damaged part of the palace in 1809. St James's Palace continues to be a key part of royal life in London.
