Vikings

Vikings were seafaring people from Scandinavia, which includes Denmark, Norway, and Sweden. They lived a long time ago, from the late 800s to the late 1000s. Vikings were amazing sailors who traveled far and wide in their special boats called longships.

Vikings explored many places, like the British Isles, Iceland, Greenland, and even Vinland in Canada. They also visited the Mediterranean, North Africa, the Middle East, and many other places. Their travels helped connect different parts of the world.

Vikings were not just sailors; they were also farmers, traders, and craftsmen. They spoke Old Norse and had their own ways of life, including special art, buildings, and stories. Over time, many Vikings changed to follow the Christian religion.

Today, people learn about Vikings from old stones with carvings, called runestones, and from discoveries made by scientists. These help us understand their homes, ships, and daily life. Vikings left a big mark on history, especially in places like England and France.

One fun fact is that Vikings did not wear horned helmets, as many stories say. Real Viking helmets were simpler and made for practical use. Vikings loved sports and games, including wrestling and a ball game similar to hockey. They also enjoyed music, storytelling, and special gatherings with food and drinks.

Vikings traded many things, like furs, fish, and beautiful beads, with people from faraway lands. Their journeys and trades helped shape the way people lived and traded in Europe and beyond.
