Western Painting
Western painting is a beautiful way to tell stories and show feelings with pictures. It has been around for a very long time and keeps changing in new and exciting ways.
People in Europe have been making paintings for thousands of years. One of the oldest paintings is inside a cave called Grotte Chauvet in France. These paintings show animals like horses and lions, made with red and black paint.
During the Middle Ages, painting changed a lot. Many paintings were made for churches and showed religious stories. Special paintings called icons were made, and colorful tile pictures called mosaics were popular too.
The Renaissance was a wonderful time for painting. It started in the 1400s and brought new ways to make art look real. Famous artists like Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, and Raphael created amazing paintings full of detail and beauty.
Later, new styles like Baroque and Rococo became popular. These paintings used rich colors and dramatic scenes. Artists like Caravaggio and Rembrandt made paintings that felt very real and full of emotion.
In the 1800s, painting changed again with styles like Realism and Impressionism. Artists like Gustave Courbet painted everyday people, while Claude Monet and Pierre-Auguste Renoir used bright colors and loose brushstrokes to show how light changes.
Today, painting continues to grow and change. New styles like abstract art and pop art have appeared, and artists explore many different ways to create. Western painting remains a wonderful way to express ideas and see the world through art.
