The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has 56 field offices in important cities across the United States and Puerto Rico. These offices help the FBI carry out its work all over the country. Each field office is led by a Special Agent in Charge, except for the large offices in Los Angeles, New York City, and Washington, D.C., which have Assistant Directors in Charge to oversee their many programs.

The FBI also has offices around the world, usually located in American embassies. These international offices help connect the FBI with other countries. All these offices work together, sending agents and support staff where they are needed to keep people safe.

Alabama

The FBI has two main offices in Alabama. The office in Birmingham helps serve many counties, including Bibb, DeKalb, Lauderdale, and St. Clair, among others. It also has smaller offices, called Resident Agencies, in Florence, Gadsden, Huntsville, and Tuscaloosa.

The other main office is in Mobile, serving counties like Autauga, Coffee, Geneva, and Baldwin, and many more. It also has Resident Agencies in Auburn, Dothan, Monroeville, Montgomery, and Selma.

Alaska

The FBI has an office in Anchorage that covers the whole state of Alaska. There are smaller offices called resident agencies in Fairbanks and Juneau as well.

Arizona

The FBI has an office in Phoenix that covers all counties except part of the Navajo Nation within Apache County, which is served by the office in Albuquerque, New Mexico. There are smaller offices called resident agencies in Flagstaff, Lake Havasu City, Lakeside, Sierra Vista, Tucson, and Yuma.

Arkansas

The FBI has a main office in Little Rock for the whole state of Arkansas. There are smaller offices, called resident agencies, in El Dorado, Fayetteville, Fort Smith, Hot Springs, Jonesboro, Marion, Pine Bluff, and Texarkana. These smaller offices help the main office with their work.

California

The FBI has several important offices in California. The office in Los Angeles helps keep many counties safe, including Los Angeles, Orange, and San Bernardino. There are smaller offices called resident agencies in places like Lancaster and Long Beach.

Another big office is in Sacramento, which covers areas such as Yosemite National Park and many other counties. Smaller offices are located in Bakersfield, Chico, and Fresno.

The San Diego office looks after Imperial and San Diego counties, with smaller offices in Imperial and North County.

Lastly, the San Francisco office serves many counties including Alameda, Contra Costa, and Marin. It also has smaller offices in Concord, Oakland, and San Jose.

Colorado

The FBI has an office in Denver that covers all of Wyoming and all counties in Colorado. There are smaller offices, called resident agencies, in Casper, Cheyenne, Colorado Springs, Durango, Fort Collins, Glenwood Springs, Grand Junction, Jackson Hole, Lander, and Pueblo. These smaller offices help the main Denver office with its work.

Connecticut

The FBI has a main office in New Haven for the whole state of Connecticut. There are smaller offices, called resident agencies, in Bridgeport, Meriden, and New London. These smaller offices help the main office in New Haven.

Florida

The FBI has three main offices in Florida located in Jacksonville, Miami, and Tampa. Each office serves many counties across the state. These main offices also have smaller offices called resident agencies in various cities to help cover more areas.

The Jacksonville office serves counties such as Alachua, Duval, and Volusia, with resident agencies in Daytona Beach, Fort Walton Beach, Gainesville, Ocala, Panama City, Pensacola, and Tallahassee. The Miami office, based in Miramar, serves counties including Broward and Miami-Dade, with resident agencies in Fort Pierce, Homestead, Key West, and West Palm Beach. The Tampa office serves counties like Hillsborough and Pinellas, with resident agencies in Clearwater, Fort Myers, Lakeland, Melbourne, Naples, Orlando, and Sarasota.

Georgia

The FBI has a field office in Atlanta in DeKalb County, covering the whole state of Georgia. There are smaller offices, called resident agencies, in Albany, Athens, Augusta, Brunswick, Columbus, Dalton, Gainesville, Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, Macon, Rome, Savannah, Statesboro, Thomasville and Valdosta. The current office in Atlanta opened in 2017 and is on the grounds of Mercer University Atlanta Campus. Before that, it was in Chamblee.

Hawaii

The FBI has an office in Honolulu (Kapolei). This office helps keep everyone safe in all the counties of Hawaii, plus the US territories of American Samoa, Guam, and the Northern Marianas. There are smaller offices called resident agencies in Kona, Mongmong-Toto-Maite, Saipan, Wailuku, and Pago Pago.

Illinois

The FBI has two main offices in Illinois. The first is in Chicago, which serves many counties including Cook and Du Page. There are smaller offices called resident agencies in places like Lisle, Orland Park, Rockford, and Schaumburg.

The second main office is in Springfield, covering many other counties such as Sangamon and Sangamon. Resident agencies are located in Champaign, Decatur, Fairview Heights, Marion, Peoria, and Quad Cities.

Indiana

The FBI has an office in Indianapolis that covers the whole state of Indiana. There are smaller offices, called resident agencies, in Bloomington, Evansville, Fort Wayne, Lafayette, Merrillville, Muncie, New Albany, South Bend, and Terre Haute. These smaller offices help the main office in Indianapolis.

Kentucky

The FBI has a main office in Louisville for the whole state of Kentucky. There are smaller offices called resident agencies in Bowling Green, Covington, Hopkinsville, Lexington, London, Owensboro, Paducah, and Pikeville. These smaller offices help the main office with their work.

Louisiana

The FBI has a main office in New Orleans for the whole state of Louisiana. There are smaller offices, called resident agencies, in Alexandria, Baton Rouge, Lafayette, Lake Charles, Monroe, and Shreveport. These smaller offices help the main office with their work.

Maryland

The FBI has an office in Baltimore that helps keep people safe in many areas. This office works with smaller groups in places like Annapolis, Bel Air, Calverton, Dover, Frederick, Rockville, Salisbury, and Wilmington, as well as all of Delaware.

The FBI has an office in Boston that helps keep people safe in many places. This office covers all of Massachusetts and also works with nearby areas in Maine, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island. There are smaller offices, called resident agencies, in towns like Augusta, Bangor, Bedford (NH), Lakeville (MA), Lowell (MA), Portland (ME), Portsmouth, Springfield, Providence (RI), and Worcester to help with local needs.

Michigan

The FBI has a main office in Detroit for the whole state of Michigan. There are smaller offices, called resident agencies, in places like Ann Arbor, Bay City, Clinton Township, Flint, Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, Lansing, Marquette, St. Joseph, Traverse City, and Troy. These smaller offices help the main office in Detroit.

Minnesota

The FBI has an office in Minneapolis that also serves Brooklyn Center. This office covers many counties and the states of North Dakota and South Dakota. It has fifteen smaller offices called resident agencies in places like Aberdeen, Bemidji, Bismarck, Duluth, Fargo, Grand Forks, Mankato, Minot, Pierre, Rapid City, Rochester, Sioux Falls, St. Cloud, and St. Paul.

Mississippi

The FBI has a main office in Jackson for the whole state of Mississippi. There are smaller offices called resident agencies in Columbus, Gulfport, Hattiesburg, Meridian, Oxford, Pascagoula, and Southaven. These smaller offices help the main office with work in their areas.

Missouri

The FBI has two main offices in Missouri.

The first office is in Kansas City. It helps the city of Kansas City and covers the whole state of Kansas and many counties in Missouri. There are smaller offices called resident agencies in places like Garden City, Jefferson City, Joplin, Manhattan, St. Joseph, Springfield, Topeka, and Wichita.

The second office is in St. Louis. It serves the city of St. Louis and many counties nearby. Smaller offices are in Cape Girardeau, Kirksville, and Rolla.

Nebraska

The FBI has an office in Omaha that serves all counties in Iowa and the whole state. There are smaller offices, called resident agencies, in Cedar Rapids, Des Moines, Grand Island, Lincoln, North Platte, Quad Cities, Sioux City, and Waterloo. These smaller offices help the main office in Omaha.

Nevada

The FBI has a main office in Las Vegas that covers the whole state of Nevada. There are smaller offices, called resident agencies, in Elko, Reno, and Stateline, which help the main office with their work in those areas.

New Jersey

New Mexico

The FBI has an office in Albuquerque that serves all counties and the Navajo Nation. There are smaller offices, called resident agencies, in Farmington, Gallup, Las Cruces, Roswell, and Santa Fe. These smaller offices help the main Albuquerque office with its work.

New York

The FBI has three main offices in New York: Albany, Buffalo, and New York City. Each office covers many counties and has smaller offices called resident agencies to help with work in different areas.

The FBI has an office in Charlotte that covers the whole state of North Carolina. There are smaller offices called resident agencies in Asheville, Fayetteville, Greensboro, Greenville, Hickory, Raleigh, and Wilmington. These smaller offices help the main Charlotte office with their work.

Smaller offices in Athens, Cambridge, Columbus, Dayton and Portsmouth.
  • Cleveland: Helps keep safe the areas of Allen, Fulton, Mahoning, Seneca, Ashland, Geauga, Marion, Stark, Ashtabula, Hancock, Medina, Summit, Auglaize, Hardin, Mercer, Trumbull, Carroll, Henry, Ottawa, Tuscarawas, Columbiana, Holmes, Paulding, Van Wert, Crawford, Huron, Portage, Wayne, Cuyahoga, Lake, Putnam, Williams, Defiance, Lorain, Richland, Wood, Erie, Lucas, Sandusky, and Wyandot. Smaller offices in Akron, Canton, Lima, Mansfield, Painesville, Sandusky, Toledo and Youngstown.

Oklahoma

The FBI has an office in Oklahoma City that covers the whole state of Oklahoma. There are smaller offices, called resident agencies, in Ardmore, Durant, Elk City, Lawton, Muskogee, Norman, Stillwater, Tulsa and Woodward. These smaller offices help the main office in Oklahoma City.

Oregon

The FBI has an office in Portland that covers the whole state of Oregon. There are smaller offices called resident agencies in Bend, Eugene, Medford, Pendleton, and Salem. These smaller offices help the main office in Portland.

Pennsylvania

The FBI has two main offices in Pennsylvania. The office in Philadelphia helps with work in many counties in Pennsylvania and some in New Jersey. It has eight smaller offices called resident agencies in places like Allentown, Cherry Hill, Fort Washington, Harrisburg, Newtown Square, Scranton, State College, and Williamsport.

The office in Pittsburgh covers all of West Virginia and many counties in Pennsylvania. It also has ten resident agencies in locations such as Beckley, Charleroi, Charleston, Clarksburg, Cranberry Township, Erie, Huntington, Johnstown, Martinsburg, and Wheeling.

Puerto Rico

The FBI has an office in San Juan that helps keep Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands safe. There are smaller offices called resident agencies in Aguadilla, Fajardo, and Ponce in Puerto Rico, as well as in St. Croix and St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

South Carolina

The FBI has an office in Columbia that covers the whole state of South Carolina. There are smaller offices called resident agencies in Aiken, Charleston, Florence, Greenville, Hilton Head, Myrtle Beach, Rock Hill, and Spartanburg.

Tennessee

The FBI has a main office in Nashville for the whole state of Tennessee. There are smaller offices called resident agencies in Chattanooga, Clarksville, Columbia, Cookeville, Jackson, Johnson City, Knoxville, Memphis, and Tullahoma. These smaller offices help the main office in Nashville.

Texas

The FBI has four main offices in Texas: Dallas, El Paso, Houston, and San Antonio. Each office covers many counties and has smaller local offices called resident agencies.

These smaller offices are located in Abilene, Amarillo, DFW Airport, Fort Worth, Frisco, Lubbock, Lufkin, San Angelo, Sherman, Texarkana, Tyler, Wichita Falls, Alpine, Midland, Beaumont, Bryan, Corpus Christi, Texas City, Austin, Brownsville, Del Rio, Laredo, McAllen, and Waco.

Utah

The FBI has an office in Salt Lake City that serves all counties in Utah and also covers the states of Idaho and Montana. This office has smaller offices called resident agencies in many towns, including Billings, Boise, Bozeman, Coeur d'Alene, Glasgow, Great Falls, Havre, Helena, Kalispell, Lewiston, Missoula, Monticello, Ogden, Pocatello, Provo, Shelby, St. George, and Vernal.

Virginia

The FBI has two main offices in Virginia. The Norfolk office helps keep places like Fort Monroe safe, along with many towns and cities nearby. It also has a smaller office in Newport News. The Richmond office covers other areas not looked after by the Norfolk or Washington, D.C. offices, including places like Dahlgren Naval Center and Fort Walker. It has smaller offices in Bristol, Charlottesville, Fredericksburg, Lynchburg, Roanoke, and Winchester.

Washington

The FBI has an office in Seattle that covers the whole state of Washington. There are smaller offices called resident agencies in Bellingham, Everett, Olympia, Silverdale, Spokane, Tacoma, Tri-Cities, Vancouver, and Yakima. These smaller offices help the main Seattle office with their work.

Washington, D.C.

  • Washington, D.C.: This office helps keep the area safe. It covers all of Washington, D.C., the Navy Annex, and several places in Virginia such as Fauquier, Arlington, Prince William, Fairfax (City and County), and Loudoun. It also includes cities and towns like Quantico, Warrenton, Falls Church, Alexandria, Manassas, Leesburg, and Vienna. There is one smaller office, called a resident agency, in Manassas.

Wisconsin

The FBI has a main office in Milwaukee that covers the whole state of Wisconsin. There are smaller offices called resident agencies in Eau Claire, Green Bay, La Crosse, Madison, and Wausau. These smaller offices help the main office in Milwaukee.
