Short-track speed skating at the Winter Olympics
Adapted from Wikipedia · Discoverer experience
Short-track speed skating has been a part of the Winter Olympics since the 1992 Winter Games in Albertville, France. Before that, it was shown as a demonstration sport at the 1988 games, but those results are not counted in the official records. South Korea has been very successful in this sport, winning many medals, especially gold ones, since it became an official event.
At the 2010 Winter Olympics, a skater named Haralds Silovs from Latvia did something no one had done before. He competed in both short track and long track speed skating on the same day. Another amazing achievement happened at the 2014 Winter Olympics when Viktor Ahn won gold medals in all four short track events.
In 2018, the International Olympic Committee added a new event called the mixed relay, where teams of men and women race together over 2000 metres. This change made the short-track schedule last six days instead of five.
