Welcome to Barak Valley

Barak Valley is a beautiful place in the Assam state of India. It is the southernmost part of Assam and is named after the Barak River, which flows through the area. The valley has three districts: Cachar, Karimganj, and Hailakandi.

The Main City

The biggest city in Barak Valley is Silchar. It is the main city of Cachar district and helps manage the whole Barak Valley area. Silchar is a busy city with many schools, hospitals, and shops. It is a place where people from different parts of the valley come together.

Close Neighbors

Barak Valley is close to several other places. To the south, you can find Mizoram and Tripura. To the west, it borders Bangladesh and Meghalaya. To the east, it is near Manipur. These nearby places make Barak Valley a special spot where different cultures meet.

  1. Rivers and Splits: The name "Barak" comes from the Dimasa words 'Bra' and 'Kro'. 'Bra' means splitting, and 'Kro' means upper part or stream. The Barak River splits near Haritikar in the Karimganj district into the Surma River and the Kushiyara River.

  2. Tea Gardens: Barak Valley is famous for its tea gardens. Just like other parts of Assam, the valley has many tea plants that grow sweet and tasty tea leaves.

  3. Festivals: People in Barak Valley love to celebrate festivals. Durga Puja is a big celebration where they worship the goddess Durga. Another important festival is Eid, which is celebrated by the Muslim community with joy and happiness.
