Welcome to Bendigo

Bendigo is a lovely city in Victoria, Australia. It is about 150 kilometres from Melbourne, and many people live there—over 100,000!

Long ago, the Dja Dja Wurrung people lived in this area. In 1851, gold was found in a place called Bendigo Creek. This made Bendigo very busy! People from many places came to look for gold. The city grew fast and became very important.

Today, Bendigo is known for its beautiful old buildings, like the Bendigo Town Hall and Sacred Heart Cathedral. These show the city's rich history. People also love visiting places like the Golden Dragon Museum and the Great Stupa of Universal Compassion.

Bendigo has many fun things to do. You can visit the Bendigo Art Gallery to see wonderful paintings. There are also theatres like the Ulumbarra Theatre for shows and music. Every year, Bendigo holds festivals such as the Bendigo Easter Festival and the Bendigo Blues and Roots Music Festival, where you can enjoy music and parades.

The city is also good for sports. Many people play cricket and Australian rules football at the Queen Elizabeth Oval. There are also races at the Bendigo Cup and basketball games with the Bendigo Braves and Bendigo Spirit.
