The Duchy of Normandy
The Duchy of Normandy is an old place in France that started a long time ago. In 911, a leader named Rollo and a king made a special agreement. Rollo was a Viking, and his people became known as the Normans.
For a long time, the rulers of Normandy also ruled England. This happened because of an important event called the Norman Conquest. Later, most of Normandy became part of France, but some islands stayed separate. These islands are called the Channel Islands, like Guernsey and Jersey.
Today, the old title "Duke of Normandy" is still used by the British monarch in the Channel Islands, even though Normandy is not a real political place anymore.
Normandy has a rich history with mixed cultures. People there spoke old Norse words and had special rules that came from old Scandinavian ideas. Even now, some of these old traditions still exist in places like the United Kingdom.
