Welcome to Guernsey

Guernsey is a beautiful island in the Channel Islands. It is just a little piece of land in the sea, close to France. Guernsey is the second biggest island in the Channel Islands and has a special group of islands called the Bailiwick of Guernsey. This group includes Alderney, Herm, Jethou, Lihou, and Sark, plus many tiny rocks.

A Place With History

Guernsey has been home to people for thousands of years. Long ago, farmers lived here and built special stone buildings called dolmens and menhirs. The island was once part of the Duchy of Normandy. Today, it is its own little country, but it has strong ties with the United Kingdom.

Life on the Island

Guernsey is a peaceful place to live. The weather is mild, with warm summers and cool winters. Snow is very rare. The island has lovely green fields and beautiful beaches. People enjoy outdoor activities like walking, cycling, and swimming.

Famous People and Places

Guernsey has attracted famous people over the years. The great French writer Victor Hugo lived here for fifteen years and wrote some of his most famous books, including Les Misérables. The island is also known for its special type of cattle called Guernsey cattle. These cows produce rich, creamy milk and tasty beef.
