Russia at the Olympics

Russia, officially called the Russian Federation, has been part of the Olympic Games many times, sometimes under different names. The first time was as the Russian Empire in 1900. Later, Russian athletes joined as part of the Soviet Union in 1952. After the Soviet Union ended in 1991, Russia competed with other former Soviet countries as the Unified Team in 1992. Starting in the 1994 Winter Olympics, they competed as Russia.

The Soviet Union hosted the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow. Russia later hosted the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. From 1994 to 2016, Russian athletes won many medals in both the Summer and Winter Olympics.

Russia has hosted the Olympic Games twice. The first was in Moscow in 1980, when it was part of the Soviet Union. The second was in Sochi in 2014, when it was called the Russian Federation.

Russian athletes have been strong in sports like wrestling, gymnastics, and athletics. They have won hundreds of medals over the years. In some years, they competed under different names, but their achievements are still remembered.
