Skyscrapers
Skyscrapers are very tall buildings with many floors. People live, work, or stay in them. They are usually in big cities where there is little space but many people.
Skyscrapers first appeared in the United States in the late 1800s, especially in Chicago and New York City. They are made strong with a special steel frame that holds up glass or stone walls. This lets architects build very tall buildings.
The tallest skyscraper in the world is the Burj Khalifa in Dubai. It stands 828 meters (2,717 feet) tall! That’s as tall as 825 football fields stacked together. Many modern skyscrapers are built to be friendly to the environment, using natural light and energy-saving designs.
Skyscrapers are found in many countries, with at least 70 having at least one. They are common in the Americas, Asia, and Australia. Because space in city centers is expensive, most rooms in skyscrapers are used by offices, shops, and hotels.
People love skyscrapers because they show how tall and impressive buildings can be. They change the shape of cities and make life easier for many people. Today’s skyscrapers focus on being safe, tall, and good for our planet.
