Swan Lake
Swan Lake is a beautiful ballet made by a famous Russian composer named Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. It is one of the most popular ballets in the world today.
The story of Swan Lake comes from old tales from Russia and Germany. It is about a princess named Odette who a tricky sorcerer turns into a swan.
The ballet was first performed in Moscow in 1877 by the Bolshoi Ballet at the Bolshoi Theatre. Today, most ballet companies use a version made in 1895 by two dancers, Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov. This version was first shown in St. Petersburg at the Mariinsky Theatre.
Swan Lake has music for a big orchestra with many instruments. There are string instruments like violins and cellos, woodwind instruments like flutes and clarinets, brass instruments like trumpets and French horns, and percussion instruments like drums and cymbals.
The main characters in Swan Lake are:
- Princess Odette – also called the Swan Queen, she is a beautiful princess turned into a white swan.
- Prince Siegfried – a handsome prince who falls in love with Odette.
- Baron Von Rothbart – an evil sorcerer who put the curse on Odette.
The story of Swan Lake has changed a little over time. In some versions, the ending is sad, and in others, it is happy. But no matter what, Swan Lake remains a beloved and magical story enjoyed by people all over the world.
