Urban Areas
An urban area is a place where lots of people live close together. These areas have many buildings, schools, hospitals, and roads. They are busy and full of life!
Urban areas are different from places in the country, called rural areas. Rural areas have fewer people and more farms or forests.
Why Urban Areas Grow
Urban areas grow because more and more people want to live there. This is called urbanization. Cities become bigger and more crowded. By 2050, most people in the world will probably live in urban areas.
Big Cities Around the World
Some urban areas are very big! For example:
- Guangzhou and Shenzhen in China have over 69 million people together.
- Tokyo and Yokohama in Japan have about 37 million people.
- Mexico City in Mexico has around 23 million people.
These big cities have many jobs, schools, and places to play. They are important for their countries.
Living in Urban Areas
Living in an urban area means you can visit many places easily. There are parks, museums, shops, and restaurants. But, it can also be noisy and crowded. That’s why some people like living in quieter rural areas.
Urban areas are exciting places full of people and opportunities!
