Megadiverse Countries
Megadiverse countries are special places where many plants and animals live. These countries have more kinds of life than most other places on Earth. Scientists love to study these areas because they are full of different species.
These countries are all in warm parts of the world, close to the equator or in subtropical zones. In 1998, a group called Conservation International picked 17 places as megadiverse countries.
Being a megadiverse country means having many plants and animals that live only there. These places are very important for keeping Earth’s nature safe. They help protect special plants and animals, including endemic species.
The 17 megadiverse countries are:
- Australia
- Brazil
- China
- Colombia
- Democratic Republic of the Congo
- Ecuador
- India
- Indonesia
- Madagascar
- Malaysia
- Mexico
- Papua New Guinea
- Peru
- Philippines
- South Africa
- United States
- Venezuela
These countries help keep our planet healthy by protecting many different kinds of life.
